Kids Say the Darndest Things

I spent six and a half hours at my church this weekend, none of which were spent participating in a religious activity of any kind. I get paid to do childcare at Unity, and I've adopted a philosophy of taking on any event that's thrown at me. It's worked pretty well so far.

Adorable child moment of the week: This past Wednesday, I was working at my church, and kids were running wild all over the parish hall. One such kid basically looks like an angel (big brown eyes, dark curly hair, little snub nose, five years old) crossed with Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes (exceedingly mischievous). He quickly honed in on a huge plastic tub of Legos that we have-- it's about the size of a small desk. He hopped in it, on top of a few inches of Legos, and grinned at me as he snuggled into the second layer of Legos.

I lifted him out of the tub, and told him that it wasn't strong enough for him to play on. Once released from my arms, he immediately hopped back into the tub. I looked down at him with my best you-know-what-you're-doing-wrong stare, and he continued to smile. "Noooah," I told him, "you need to get out of that tub."
"But I can't!" he responded, eyes widened in horror, "It's my home!"
That time, I was laughing as I pulled him out.

I also got invited to Google Wave this weekend, which is awesome and really only serves to exacerbate by compulsive tendencies. If you're chatting with someone, and they say "when your going to the grocery store" you can go back and edit what they said. "Your" can be transformed into its proper form every (appropriate) time!

Of course, the person you're chatting with can then go into your chat bubble and type in "I am an obsessive brat." And be completely justified. But anyway, Google Wave has some cool feature besides the whole catering-to-my-hidden-50-year-old-grammarian thing. Check out some more info about it here. It's currently in beta version, so you need an invitation to join, but just let me know if you want one-- I think I have six or seven left.
