On that subject, here's what I have planned for the year. I'll be taking two college classes, Advanced Conversation and Composition in Spanish and Macroeconomics, at Hamline University. I have an internship with Organizing For America that will remain somewhat mysterious until this Sunday, when I'll be attending a meeting that I hope will tell me what I'll actually be doing. I'll also hopefully be doing classroom work at a local elementary school, which I'll have more details on by this afternoon. I'm a member of Planned Parenthood's Teen Council, which does peer sexuality education and community advocacy. I'm also on the Interfaith Youth Leadership Coalition again this year, aaand I'm planning a parent discussion group on sexuality at my church with my fabulous mentor, Grit. I'm also captain of the Cross Country team at Central, and I'll be babysitting at church and for a baby a block away when I can.
It might be kind of a busy year.
I think I have a dentist appointment soon, too.
Hey, this is kinda creepy of me (I'm not stalking you, I promise! lol)... I noticed Central was at the Nokomis meet and I was wondering if you were there, but I didn't recognize you from your profile picture. However, I did see your name on the results. You are fast! Dang! I was super proud of my 22 minutes, lol. Well, good job and good luck for the rest of the season. It sounds like you have a lot of good and interesting things to do this year!
ReplyDeleteHaha, hey! That's awesome! I never would've thought to do that-- I'm impressed, ha. Who do you run for? (Nokomis is the worst meet EVER, incidentally.)
ReplyDeleteI've been following along on your blog, and I saw that you mentioned the SAT subject tests. Are you taking those? Do you think they're necessary? I've been waffling on whether to register... Reed's website says I should, but the thought leaves me with a massive feeling of ehhhhh. And how're you doing your application? And ahh, I have so many questions about college shit in general!
I agree, Nokomis sucks. It is always hot, and incredibly boring. I run for South St. Paul (my former school). We suck. We have a long history of sucking.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the SAT subject tests. I can't take the ones in October, so I'd have to wait until November and I don't know if the results will be available in time for admissions. I'm thinking about taking French if I can use it for placement. I don't know about any other ones, maybe history or something to supplement my transcript, but I don't really care that much. I'm not afraid of being rejected by colleges because my education isn't standardized enough.
I haven't even started on applications. I have a few schools I want to apply to, and some that look interesting, but the closer it gets to deadlines, the less excited I am about it. I want to go to college for the wrong reason - I want to learn. I don't care about a degree (yeah, it would be useful), I don't care about dorm life, I don't care about sports, I don't care about a "well-rounded" liberal arts education. I'd rather find a way to unschool my way through life than take the easy way out and go to college.
